Synopsis

Disgraced biblical scholar Maeve Bryson spent decades hunting for two lost epistles. As she followed a trail of codes, ciphers, and medieval documents, she knew an anonymous enemy was shadowing her. He ruined her career. He forced her and frail husband Quentin to exile themselves to an obscure corner of Ireland. He’s determined to destroy the epistles’ extraordinary secrets. Now Maeve is dying. Desperate, she writes out the final clues and turns over the dangerous cat-and-mouse game to her most trusted friend. Layla Daltry is an antiquities hunter who works on the edge of the law. For Maeve’s sake and driven by her own obsessions, she races across Europe in pursuit of the ancient epistles. She knows the enemy is close on her heels. What she doesn’t know is that he belongs to a powerful, real-life American cabal that has joined forces with the most fanatical members of the Knights of Malta. Their reach is vast—and deadly. The only person who can help her is Zach Sandoval, a man she once loved but doesn’t trust. Together they find themselves swept up in a treacherous mystery that is spiraling out of control.
