Add Verb Publications is a division of Add Verb Productions--a program of the University of New England. Add Verb's Director and founder , Cathy Plourde, is a playwright who has used theatre for health and wellness education since the early 1990's, primarily focused on issues that are both relevant to youth and a particular challenge to communities. Plourde has presented on her work nationally and internationally, and has had commissions and workshop residencies for such groups as Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, the Maine Women's Fund, and Boys to Men. Plourde's touring productions, The Thin Line (on coping with eating disorders) and You the Man (on empowering bystanders to support victims of abuse and sexual coercion) have been seen by over 170,000 people in 34 states (and Bermuda and Japan!). Add Verb's Out & Allied Youth Project was primarily youth driven, from the development of the pieces, to peer editing, to producing performances, to completing the book. Funding for this project came through the National Recreation Foundation, the Mukti Fund, the Maine Community Foundation's Equity Fund, the Maine Arts Commission and many private donors, including book design by Lauren Johnson at Proactive Resources. Plourde and Add Verb Productions are based in Maine at UNE's Portland Campus.
