Originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, author Bryan Knowles has been obsessed with all things aquatic for as long as he can remember. “I’ve always loved the outdoors, but something about the ocean in particular and just being in the water makes me feel complete, alive and at peace. Nothing else compares.” A passionate writer and craftsman, Bryan began making his own fishing lures, flies and skateboard ramps around age ten. By thirteen, he picked up surfing and a year later made his first surfboard. Shaping boards for himself and friends throughout high school, Bryan wrote his college application essay about board building and was accepted to Stanford University. While at Stanford, Bryan continued to make surfboards and graduated in 2006 with a degree in neuro-psychology and sub-concentration in entrepreneurship. From there he worked as a marketing consultant in Los Angeles and San Francisco for a few years, before deciding to focus on his true passion, launching a surfboard company called Ride Anything (www.RideAnything.com) in 2010. Bryan now resides in San Clemente, California and when he’s not in the water or the shaping room, he’s likely putting the beauty of surfing into words as showcased by this book’s unique collection of his writing.
