Elizabeth Thornton has worked hard to get where she is in life. An only child raised by a single mother in a small Colorado town, she has risen through the ranks and sits at the top of her field. She has a great career with a top company, a townhouse in a prestigious Boston neighborhood, and all the trappings of success- everything she thought she wanted; but for some reason she hasn't found the one thing her soul most yearns for. When her mother is diagnosed with cancer, Elizabeth puts her life on hold to return to Colorado to see to her care. A recent transplant to Carbondale, Hailey Jensen is starting over in a new life of her own making, far away from the daily reminders of everything that she was and is. She is soon befriended by the local bakery owner who becomes a sort of mother figure and forces Hailey to face her demons when she suddenly collapses at work. This is the story of 3 women, whose evolving relationships with themselves and each other teach them how to be themselves, how to be brave in the face of deep potential sorrow and that love can come from surprising places and take surprising shapes. Can the bonds they forge with each other survive the cards they've been dealt?

An only child, Kathleen Wheeler spent most of her childhood in the high desert of southwestern New Mexico where she learned to shoot guns and ride horses and a whole slew of skills that would be useful in the zombie apocalypse. She is a student of life and a bit of a nomad as well as a Jane of all trades, having lived in 9 states and 2 countries and working all manner of jobs. She has been an all night gas station attendant, a car washer, coffee slinger, landscaper, radio news writer, potter and studio manager, dog food rep, café manager, chef’s assistant, dishwasher. She was even a fancy corporate sales executive working with top high tech companies and most recently became a content developer and blogger for her family’s websites GenWed.com and AllFreeRecords.com as well as being a mother to a beautiful son whom she adores with everything she has. She plays several musical instruments, loves to create anything- especially if it makes a mess, enjoys cooking, reading, film, hiking, kayaking and mountain biking and generally anything that involves going outside. She also thinks 'normal' is an insult and 'weirdo' can definitely be a compliment. Ms. Wheeler started writing at an early age and has found ways throughout her life to keep at it, despite the fact that Changing Shape (2012) is her first substantial work of fiction. Early published work includes poetry and various newspaper articles; more recent work consists of trade papers and marketing content for various clients (blog and websites notwithstanding). She reads an obscene amount of books, has recently digitized her library in order to have room for living, and she currently calls Birmingham Alabama home (for now).
