This book offers insight into the psyche of our youth and what it takes to transform their thinking in a more positive and productive manner. Chasing the Artificial Rainbow has been written specifically to help minority students understand the importance of a quality education and why making sound decisions, and being of service is necessary. The book takes the guess work out of selecting colleges to best meet an individuals’ need. The book takes into account the sociological, psychological, humanistic, cultural, and monetary factors which influence the emotional and physical state of African American students. The book contains educational research, student testimonies, student athlete’s case studies and a inspirational message intertwined with feasible solutions to overcome the great challenges of our time. The objective of this book is to help build strong communities, by building stronger individuals.

By the time Calvin Hayes reached the age of 23, he had worked in South Africa, represented the United States in Israel, and worked as a Youth Programs Officer as several Air Force Bases in Europe. As a 2011 Charles B. Rangel Fellow, he will continue to improve the global landscape as a Foreign Service Officer and U.S. Diplomat for the Department of State. Since the age of 8, Calvin has been an active pulic servant and a powerful public speaker. A former student body vice president at Florida A&M University, he was most recently named the 2011 National Oratorical Champion for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from FAMU with a B.S. in public relations and a minor in political science. He has worked for the Department of State, United States Congress, Florida House of Representatives and interned for the City of Orlando. Calvin resides in Washington, D.C. and is a candidate for a master's degree in International Communication and Public Diplomacy at the American University. Calvin is currently working in Northeast Africa on human rights and food security issues with the Department of State. He specializes in U.S. Africa relations, and will become a United States Diplomat upon completion of his master's degree. Author Gregory Ford History has shown that Gregory Ford has been an advocate for building up youths since the 1990’s. He has served in the role of social worker and high school track coach which provided him with access to the minds, bodies and hearts of adolescents. Gregory holds a bachelor and master degree in social work. Ford is married to Dr. Croskey with two daughters (Sydney and Paige). Gregory’s years of service have been captured in the USA Today, Orlando Sentinel, Baltimore Sun and National Football Foundation publication. Greg contributes his life success to access to opportunities, family and community support. He has recently published a non-fiction for African American students title “Chasing the Artificial Rainbow” to promote higher education and service to one’s community. Greg is a native of Washington, DC but life work has taken him to Baltimore, Fayetteville NC, Orlando, Tampa and Richmond. Living in various Metropolitan communities has given Greg greater awareness of the need for youth related services and access to quality higher education.
