DR. DENISE GUDWIN is an acclaimed teacher and outstanding nationally recognized presenter and school-site consultant in the areas of literacy, learning disabilities, mentoring/coaching, differentiated instruction, inclusive /co-teaching practices, and Response to Intervention, and Common Core ELA. Experienced as a classroom teacher, curriculum specialist, staff developer, central office administrator, and university instructor, Denise brings 35 years of experience working with students who have reading difficulties. Thirty of those years include twenty years in the classroom, and ten years in the central office as an instructional supervisor for Programs for Learning Disabilities, and as an executive director for Professional Development. Denise is co-author of Mentoring and Coaching: A Lifeline for Teachers in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Classroom (2010, Corwin Press); Phonological Awareness and Early Literacy Assessment (Wright Group); Professional Development: Assisting Urban Schools in Making Annual Yearly Progress, in the Journal of Urban Learning, Teaching, and Research (Volume 3, September 2007); and A Qualitative Study of New/Early Career Special Education Teacher Retention in a Multicultural Urban Setting, (Spring 2008) Florida Educational Leadership Journal. Denise is also author of numerous K-6 teacher handbooks on the topics of: Common Core ELA for Struggling Readers, Accelerating the Reading Achievement of Students with Learning Disabilities, Response to Intervention, Response to Intervention/Reading Assessment, and Co-Teaching. Additionally, during the past fifteen years, her focus has also included working with teachers, parents, schools, and districts to provide the most successful environment for high quality teaching experiences.
