Love conquers almost all in this second edition. It's a tale of bridled romance and lawless softball. Cheerily unflappable low-achiever Duggie Moon gets by on his charm and his willingness to work for minimum wage as long as he’s free to live as a slacker entrepreneur in the idyllic mountains of Rapidan County, Virginia. Duggie has a soft heart, and some of his best friends would tell you he’s got a soft head too. But he’s always willing to put his own interests aside for the good of the team. In the town of Dudleigh, the highpoint of the social calendar is the annual Fourth of July softball tournament, but dark forces are gathering for this year’s normally easy-going event. When his ace-pitcher and longstanding unrequited love Jenny Carson is forced to play for the competition, and a team of thuggish ringers raise the stakes, Duggie has his hands full trying to keep tempers from flying higher than the homers. And he’s having trouble focusing because he’s a little paranoid about the booming crop of pot he’s secretly growing in an old school bus behind his house. All will be well if he can just get it harvested before the Sheriff’s men get wind of it. In an ordinary steamy July in Virginia, even the coolest characters find it hard to avoid getting baked. For Duggie Moon, this summer looks to be a scorcher.

C.H. Sprague was born a stone's throw from Lake Erie and grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She wrote a weekly column at a small newspaper in Virginia for more than ten years. The majority of the readers in that rural conservative area felt strongly about the right to bear arms and eat cows. It was there the author learned that people who raise cattle don't want to read about the virtues of tofu. She abandoned journalism in favor of fiction some years ago and now writes light urban fantasy with an environmental slant, as well as other fiction. On her weekly blog she writes about books, movies, and life on Earth. www.theconstantharper.com
