It was everything and much more than I expected, really felt I got to know him better, what an awesome story teller he was. I did not want to finish it, I cherished each word. Brilliant achievement. Lilia --Reader
Reading this book may cause major frustration with your current life style and lead to excessive daydreaming causing loss of productivity. In severe cases it may cause abrupt absenteeism from work. Not to be used with alcohol as this may enhance the effects of getting the f&#k out of town and rafting a rapid" Gideo --Reader
To try to put into words the effect Hendri s book had on me, is never going to do it justice. He was a remarkable human being, and I sense we will all feel after reading his book that we are the poorer for never having known him in the flesh. But what we do have of him is fantastic! Dave --Reader
Hendri Coetzee completed his manuscript just before he was taken from his kayak, by a crocodile, when leading a first decent expedition on the Lukuga river in the DRC on 7 Dec 2010. The book was then edited and published by a close circle of friends and family. He was 35 years old when he died and was a well known white water kayaker. He was also nominated Adventurer of the Year and winner of the Ryder of the Year Awards as Expedition of the Year in 2009. He had a Honn. in Psychology and was a philosopher in his nature. He did numerous first decents on white water rivers and also led various significant expeditions on rivers in Africa. The Economist obituary of him in Dec 2010 stated the following: "He preferred to assume that plenty was still unknown, and to accept fear was the price you paid for paddling into Nature's secrets".
