Separate chapters have been allotted to hepatic coma, ascites and cholestasis (which has been reclassified). Variations in serum immunoglobulins are analysed. In addition, this edition introduces new aspects of bilirubin metabolism; intrapulmonary shunting in cirrhosis; aflatoxin and human disease; a new classification of iron storage disease; the diagnosis of pre-symptomatic Wilson?s disease; the relation of cirrhosis to diabetes mellitus; the use of scintiscanning and celiacography in the localisation of space-filling lesions in the liver; hepatic resection and transplantation; the relation of biliary micelles to gall-stone formation and the role of infection in biliary disease.
