The major part of the law of building contracts is laid down in decided cases, scattered throughout a large number of series of reports which are generally not accessible to the non–lawyer.

Construction professionals must be familiar with these cases and this important book is designed to help them. It brings together a wide range of cases on the main aspects of the subject, states the principle established and gives a summary of the facts and the decision. For the majority of cases, verbatim extracts from the judgment are given.

The casebook presents the leading cases on the topic, together with many lesser–known but important decisions. A number of useful decisions from the Commonwealth are included. Throughout, the authors′ approach is practical rather than academic.

There have been many new cases in construction law since the last edition was published in 1990, and the Third Edition takes account of the most important of these. It also includes a new chapter on damages for defective building work, a topic which has generated a number of extremely important new cases. The section on key tort cases has also been extended.

Biographie de l'auteur

Michael P. Furmston TD, MA, BCL, LLM, Bencher of Gray′s Inn, is Dean of the School of Law and Professor of Law at Singapore Management University. He is also Emeritus Professor and senior research fellow in the School of Law at Bristol University. An internationally acknowledged authority on contract and commercial law, he is author of the leading textbook on contract law Cheshire, Fifoot & Furmston on Contract, and has acted as Editor of the Construction Law Reports since 1985.
