Six chapters deal with conservarion, the principles of soil erosion and its prevention and control in dryland Australia. Other chapters provide an outline of the environment in the arid and semi-arid zones, shade and shelter on the farm and examples of design, the role of trees and shrubs for honey production, chenopod browse plants, factors in the selection and use of tree species, nursery raising, tree establishment and the care of valuable trees in parks and gardens. Some 177 trees and shrubs, mainly native species are described and in most cases, illustrated.
