Synopsis

What turns a good man bad?

One of DCI Frank Finnegan’s own lies on life support, and Frank wants the bastard who put him there.

A copper gunned down. Stolen Nazi relics. And a bell that only tolls for the dead.

THE SHOOTING

A routine check. A reckless driver. No big deal. DS Jason Cartwright expects a bit of lip—not a bullet to the chest.

Cartwright clings to life. The gunman escapes.

As the police top brass descend on Whitby, DI Kumar is suspended, and Frank and DS Stoker are unceremoniously stood down.

But the trio have other ideas.

THE RELICS

Their only lead is a robbery committed two hours before the shooting—a rare stamp worth £45,000.

The same stolen car at both scenes.

The trail leads back to a burglary involving Nazi memorabilia, a missing WWI Luger pistol—and something its wealthy owners neglected to tell the police.

Someone may unwittingly know who pulled the trigger, and Finnegan intends to find out who.

THE TOLL

When the bells of St Mary’s begin to toll, Finnegan’s team stops and counts.

Each chime marks a year of a life lost.

For whom do the bells toll?

A copper fighting for his life. A deranged killer on the loose. And two good men breaking bad.

Whitby Toll is Book 4 in the DCI Frank Finnegan Yorkshire Crime Thriller series—fast-paced murder investigations starring Finnegan and his team, set in Whitby and across North Yorkshire.
