What happens when life throws you a curveball and you end up in a coma?
You fight damn hard to rebuild your life, that's what.
Sandra Hubert was 31 years of age and heavily pregnant with her third child when she contracted viral encephalitis and was placed into a coma.
Her son was delivered by caesarean. When she finally woke from the coma, she was told devastating news - she had suffered serious brain injury.
I'll Do It Myself tells Sandra's remarkable story of healing with humour and unflinching honesty, and reveals the power of determination.
After her injury, Sandra drew on her strength and the love of her family to retrain her brain and rebuild her life.
She slowly put together the broken pieces and created something new, beautiful and strong from something that had once seemed impossible to repair.
If you've experienced a life-altering challenge (even if it's not a brain injury), you, too, can figure out a way to heal from and grow through that challenge.
Sandra's story will inspire you to do it!

Sandra Hubert is a 'people person' with a big heart. Ask anyone who knows her. They'll tell you that she lives life to the fullest, pouring love on family and friends and celebrating life at every chance. A serious brain injury in 1994 threatened to take away the life she loved, but she simply refused to give up. There was too much to live for. She put her hands on her hips, tipped her nose in the air, and said, 'I'll do it myself.' She's come so far since then - she works as a carer and on boards of community organisations; makes memory cards and sews memory pillows and teddies for grieving families; and brings accountancy skills to businesses in her home city of Townsville, Queensland. When not giving to her community, Sandra loves nothing more than spending time with husband Roland and their amazing sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren; enjoying beautiful roses from her garden; clinking glasses of Champagne with friends old and new on camping trips; stepping out in a pair of glam high heels from her colourful collection; and swaying to the music of Phil Collins. This 'people person' is so grateful to have been given a second chance - life really is too short.
