Hardcover. Etat : Good. WITH THE TWENTY-SECOND A History of the Twenty-Second Battalion, A.I.F. By Captain Eugene Gorman, M.C. With an introduction by General Sir William R. Birdwood Revised and compiled by Carl Johnson An important and comprehensive history of the 22nd Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, one of Victoria's First World War infantry battalions. Originally published in Melbourne in 1919, this is the substantially expanded 2001 Revised Edition, published by History House, Melbourne. The book follows the men of the 22nd Battalion from Gallipoli and Anzac Cove through to the Western Front, recording their service, battles and experiences during the First World War. An important expanded edition Unlike a straightforward reproduction of the scarce 1919 original, this revised edition contains substantial additional historical material. Of particular importance is the inclusion, for the first time, of a Nominal Roll containing nearly 5,000 men who served with the 22nd Battalion, together with a comprehensive photographic record of the battalion and the battlefields on which its men fought and died. An excellent reference for family-history research, medal research and Australian WWI/AIF collectors. Publication details: Author: Captain Eugene Gorman, M.C. Revised/Compiled by: Carl Johnson Edited by: Carl Johnson & Kristine Braddock Publisher: History House Published: Melbourne, 2001 Original edition: Melbourne, 1919 ISBN: 0-646-41133-0 Paperback Australian publication Victorian RSL / Anzac House provenance This particular copy has additional provenance. The title page bears the red library stamp: "VICTORIAN BRANCH RSL - LIBRARY - ANZAC HOUSE" It also carries the handwritten name: "Bill Harry" The inscription is believed to relate to Cuthbert Oswald "Bill" Harry AM OBE, a veteran of the 2/22nd Battalion AIF (Lark Force) and a prominent long-serving Victorian RSL official. Harry served the Victorian RSL for decades, including approximately 37 years as Honorary State Treasurer, and was closely associated with RSL Headquarters at Anzac House. He was also Honorary Secretary of the 2/22nd Battalion "Lark Force" Association. Please note: while the RSL provenance is evident from the library stamp, the "Bill Harry" inscription has not been independently authenticated, and is therefore offered as an interesting historical association rather than a guaranteed autograph. Condition Good used condition. The book shows expected signs of previous use and its former RSL library ownership. There is visible handling, rubbing, creasing and marking to the covers, together with the RSL library stamp and handwritten ownership inscription internally. A particularly interesting copy for collectors of the 22nd Battalion AIF, Australian Imperial Force, Gallipoli, Western Front, Victorian military history, RSL history and Australian WWI unit histories.
