À propos de l?auteur

Independent Australian midwife Annie Sprague has been attending birth for more than 20 years. She began to notice that many women who used a birth pool or deep bath during labour appeared to have easier labours and births. Women spoke of the pain relief that the pool provided. Yet, the use of a birthing pool or deep spa bath is not commonly used or offered to women as a method of pain and stress relief despite the many pools and deep baths that have been installed in many maternity units. Some hospitals have made rules-for-rules-sake about water use, which effectively deny women opportunities to use non- drug methods of pain relief as well as restrict midwifery practice. In some cases, the bath plugs have been stolen in an attempt to thwart women using a bath during labour. Deep water immersion is a useful tool for labouring women and the suggestions found in this book can help midwives, doulas and others to provide the best care to women who choose to labour and may give birth in water.
