She is best known for acquiring the Wentworth Hotel, United Service Hotel and the Windsor Hotel. In the mid-1950s, the Raines contributed to an appeal to launch a medical school at the University of Western Australia. When her husband, Arnold 'Joe' Yeldham Raine, died, Mary contributed again by establishing the Arnold Yeldham & Mary Raine Medical Research Foundation.
