Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book dissects the convoluted history of Austrian municipal governance from 1848 to 1902. The author begins with the establishment of self-governing municipalities under the 1848 constitution, which gave rise to debates over municipal autonomy versus state control throughout the 19th century. The author details the administrative responsibilities delegated to municipalities, tracing the evolution of their roles in welfare, health, and education. This work is significant for its nuanced examination of the tensions between local self-determination and the need for state oversight in a rapidly changing society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
