Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents the earliest printed fragments, with minor editorial revisions, of an ambitious work, "Faust's Life," by writer, painter, and designer, Müller. Significant as the first published larger attempts at a Faust drama, this book places Müller's work within the literary context of the "Storm and Stress" or Geniezeit movement of the late 18th century. It was a literary and artistic movement of young writers who rebelled against the prevailing societal norms of the time, rejecting both the Enlightenment's emphasis on reason and the sentimental movement's focus on emotion. Instead, the writers of this era favored an expressive individualism, emotion and feeling over intellect, and nature and instinct over societal constraints. The author's Faust character, a man grappling with the question of his place in a meaningless world, is a quintessential figure of the movement. Their struggle to find meaning in life, their exploration of the darker, irrational, aspects of human nature, and their desire to transcend the limitations of earthly existence are central to the themes that run through this book.
