Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico, exploring the complex political backdrop of its composition, and the military and strategic context of the Gallic Wars. The author argues that these Commentarii are far from being the detached, objective accounts of a general reporting back to the Roman people that they may, at first glance, appear to be. They are, instead, carefully crafted political documents, designed to bolster Caesar's position as a popular hero in Rome. The author demonstrates that a full understanding of the Gallic Wars cannot be achieved without an appreciation of Caesar's political maneuvering at home. Through a close analysis of the text, the author uncovers the veiled political meanings scattered throughout the Commentarii, revealing a depth of political and military insight that has often been overlooked. This book will appeal to readers interested in the history of the Roman Republic, the Gallic Wars, and the art of political propaganda. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9780666789716_0
