THE FALL OF A SPARROW is the story of Woody, a Classics professor at a small midwestern college, whose oldest daughter Cookie is killed in the terrorist bombing of the train station in Bologna, Italy, in 1980. Seven years after the bombing, Woody is convinced that life has taught him all the lessons he has to learn. And yet a new life begins almost imperceptibly with the arrest of the woman who placed the bomb in the train station; and then not so imperceptibly with an affair with one of his students. Woody leaves his old life behind and goes to Italy to attend the trial of the terrorists responsible for his daughter's death ...
