Synopsis

Cocoa is Apple's powerful and mature object-oriented development technology, used for creating Mac OS X applications quickly and efficiently. A collection of software objects that implement almost all features common to Mac OS X applications, Cocoa allows significant applications to be built with very little code. Cocoa Programming provides intermediate and advanced-level programmers with no-nonsense, hands-on techniques for producing powerful full-featured Cocoa applications. It communicates the wisdom and design experience of three veteran Cocoa developers and includes technical information and insights that are not available from any other source. This comprehensive book covers virtually every aspect of Cocoa application development, from the tools used to build programs to sophisticated multimedia and low-level implementation details. Topics ranging from client-server networking to game development are covered. Examples that can be used directly in application code, and a companion Web site provide a treasure chest of reusable objects that illustrate the best practices developed through years of use.

A propos du livre

À propos de l'auteur

Scott Anguish started developing for the Macintosh in 1984. Upon seeing the NeXT development environment in 1992 he was hooked on the possibilities of a unified imaging model and a pure object-oriented system. In 1994, after several years of NeXT development, he created Stepwise, a portal for information related to NeXT technologies. Today, Stepwise serves as a hub for Apple's Mac OS X technology platform, as well as Cocoa and WebObjects development. Anguish uses Cocoa and WebObjects to build better technology for higher education at the Center for Educational Technology in Middlebury College. Erik M. Buck is president of EMB & Associates, Inc. He has developed industry-leading applications using the technology that evolved into Cocoa since 1989. He is a frequent contributor to technical mailing lists and has written many articles for the premier Cocoa developer resource on the Internet, www.stepwise.com. Donald A. Yacktman has been using Cocoa and its predecessor technologies, OpenStep and NextStep, professionally since 1991. He is currently the Vice President of Development at illumineX, an independent software vendor of Cocoa-based Mac OS X software and a WebObjects consulting firm.
