Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) was an 18th-century German philosopher from the Prussian city of Königsberg. Kant was the last influential philosopher of modern Europe in the classic sequence of the theory of knowledge during the Enlightenment beginning with thinkers John Locke, George Berkeley, and David Hume. Kant's thought was very influential in Germany during his lifetime, moving philosophy beyond the debate between the rationalists and empiricists. The philosophers Fichte, Schelling, Hegel and Schopenhauer each saw themselves as correcting and expanding the Kantian system, thus bringing about various forms of German idealism. Kant continues to be a major influence on philosophy, influencing both analytic and continental philosophy. Over and above his specific influence on specific thinkers, Kant changed the framework within which philosophical inquiry has been carried out from his day through the present in ways that have been irreversible. In other words, he accomplished a paradigm shift: very little philosophy since Kant has been carried out as an extension of pre-Kantian philosophy or in the mode of thought and discourse of pre-Kantian philosophy.
The Critique of Practical Reason is the second of Immanuel Kant's three critiques, first published in 1788. It follows on from his Critique of Pure Reason and deals with his moral philosophy.
The second Critique exercised a decisive influence over the subsequent development of the field of ethics and moral philosophy, beginning with Fichte's Doctrine of Science and becoming, during the 20th century, the principal reference point for every moral philosophy of a deontological stamp.

Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition, Eleventh Printing. Critique of Practical Reason by Immanuel Kant, translated by Lewis White Beck, is a foundational work in moral philosophy, where Kant explores the nature of human agency, morality, and ethical decision-making. In this text, Kant delves into the concept of practical reason, which he defines as the ability to make decisions based on moral principles, rather than purely on empirical knowledge or desires. He argues that moral actions are not determined by consequences but by adherence to a universal moral law, which he famously articulates through the categorical imperative. Kant examines how practical reason can guide individuals toward moral actions that respect the dignity and autonomy of others. The work also addresses the relationship between freedom and morality, emphasizing that true freedom is found in the ability to act according to moral laws. The Critique of Practical Reason is crucial for understanding Kant's ethical philosophy and his broader ideas about human autonomy, duty, and moral law. N° de réf. du vendeur NF.KAN.1975.1
