Hardcover. Etat : Fair. Etat de la jaquette : Fair. Jacket by Charles Geer (illustrateur). 1st Edition. First USA edition, first impression with full number line. SIGNED, DATED AND INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, IN BLUE PEN, ON HALF TITLE PAGE 'To Mary and Ernest with love from Edith "Ellis Peters" 1974'. Edge wear, chipping, short closed tears and some loss to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners rubbed and bruised with small loss, bad lean, rear endpapers missing, not price clipped ($5.95), no other inscriptions, internally clean and fairly tight, overall a poor but quite interesting copy. 224pp. No case is too strange or too baffling for the policeman George Felse and his son Dominic. Over 13 instalments and two decades, the Felse Investigations will take them from their home on the Welsh Borders to the southernmost tip of India. When archaeologist Alan Morris disappears in Turkey, his great niece Charlotte regrets never having got to know him better. In an attempt to better understand him, Charlotte begins reading the books he wrote. One of them leads her to visit the Roman site of Aurae Phiala, on the Welsh border, the last place her great uncle worked before leaving for Turkey. But when Charlotte arrives she finds more than just a few old stones. First there is a charming young man coincidentally staying at the same hotel, who is very insistent on being her guide. Then a troublesome schoolboy disappears and a corpse is found. Detective Chief Inspector George Felse is called in to solve a mystery whose roots go back to ancient Roman times. Edith Mary Pargeter (1913-1995), also known by her nom de plume Ellis Peters, was an author of works in many categories, especially history and historical fiction, and was also honoured for her translations of Czech classics. She is probably best known for her murder mysteries both historical and modern, especially for her medieval detective series the 'Brother Cadfael' mysteries, serialised on tv starring Derek Jacobi. A scarce book, especially signed. Signed by Author(s). N° de réf. du vendeur 007240
