As an educational leader, Dr. Marilou Ryder has participated in a wide range of opportunities at both site and district levels. Working in six school districts and two states her experiences include classroom teaching and site administration at the secondary level. She served as an assistant superintendent of educational services and district superintendent for both unified and union high school districts. Marilou holds a Master’s degree from Syracuse University and received her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of La Verne. In addition, she pursued post-graduate studies at the University of California, Irvine and CSU, Long Beach. Dr. Ryder also served as an adjunct instructor for CSU Fullerton teaching graduate courses in leadership, governance and school finance. She currently teaches organizational leadership for Brandman University, part of the Chapman University system. Active in dialogue on educational policy issues Dr. Ryder has worked with groups statewide to promote public education. An accomplished presenter, she speaks before numerous education groups, retreat groups, leadership organizations, and service clubs. Her leadership roles have included participation in educational women’s mentoring groups and serving as a board member for various educational foundations. In 2007, Dr. Ryder was named “Top Ten Business Professional Women of the Year” for her involvement in local community affairs. Throughout her career, Marilou has been an energetic and determined advocate for children committed to raising the quality of education through comprehensive and sustained reform. Under her leadership, Calle Mayor Miiddle School in Torrance USD was recognized as a California Distinguished School and National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Her colleagues recognized her leadership by selecting Dr. Ryder for the California Administrator of the Year Award and the Johns Hopkins Outstanding Administrator. Dr. Ryder established Ryder and Associates, an educational consulting firm dedicated to providing leadership services to schools and individuals. Her services include executive mentoring in which she works with clients to develop self-promotion plans, write strategic cover letters, design powerful resumes and engage in focused and deliberate interview preparation.
