Dr. Dennis White has spent more than 50 years learning how to be both a leader and a follower. His diverse experiences in the military, law enforcement, business, government service, and higher education include: • Enlisting in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 as a Private, and ultimately attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (USAR). His active duty service included foreign tours in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. • Public service as a police officer in Nebraska, Connecticut, and Iowa. • Owning and operating an independent sales and marketing company that sold millions of dollars of products and services in advertising, insurance, home improvement, and industrial and commercial lighting. • Designation as a Community Builder Fellow by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) followed by more than 10 years of service as a senior-level civil servant with HUD. • Decades of experience teaching college and university students, both undergraduate and graduate, in the fields of criminal justice, business, and organizational leadership. When asked to describe his own leadership style, Dr. White unhesitatingly responds that he is a “servant leader guided by obviousness.” He has been married for 44 years to Dr. Judith Deierling White. They have two grown daughters and four grandchildren. Dennis continues to teach, write, and consult with a variety of organizations from his home in Iowa.
