Far Tune, the coming-of-age story of Fartun Hashi, a young Somali refugee girl, living in Columbus, Ohio, recounts a teenage girl’s adjustment to a new culture and a new school and the alienation, loneliness, and eventual triumph over adversity that she experiences.Fartun Hashi has known many homes—Dadaab Refugee Camp in Kenya; London, England; and now Columbus, Ohio. From a young age, she has been forced to learn how to deal with traumas that people much older struggle to overcome. What she really wants now is to live her life just like any other fourteen year old—hang out with friends she can trust, do well in school, have success on her soccer team, and maybe go for one day without fighting with her dad and older brother.Far Tune is a character-driven story which mixes the quotidian realities of the daily life of a Midwestern teenager with larger themes like race, class, and religion.

Terry Eisele has taught English for over twenty five years in places as far flung as the Czech Republic, Switzerland, California, and Ohio. He is currently a professor at Columbus State Community College. He received a master’s degree in comparative cultural studies from the Ohio State University. Terry is the writer of the three-volume graphic novel, With Only Five Plums, which tells the life story of a Czech holocaust survivor who he interviewed three times in the mid-1990s. His latest project, Far Tune, is a coming-of-age graphic novel about a fourteen-year-old Somali refugee girl living in Columbus, Ohio. He reads comics, supports Arsenal Football Club, and writes in his spare time. Brent Bowman is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design with a degree in illustration. A lifelong comics fan, Brent has been drawing since he was old enough to pick up a pencil. His work has appeared in publications by NBM, Image Comics, and Caliber Press, as well as the collectable card game “Age of Empires.” Most recently he contributed a story to the web comic anthology “ReDistricted”. His graphic novel, “Persia Blues” (with New York Times best-selling author, Dara Naraghi) was selected as a “Great Graphic Novels for Teens” nominee in 2014 by the Young Adults Library Service Association (YALSA) and also was a 2014 “Amanda Bloomer Project, Recommended Feminist Literature for Birth though 18” nominee, from the American Library Association. Persia Blues Volume 2 was released in late 2015, and was the winner of the “2016 SPACE Prize” for Best Graphic Novel. Brent’s current project with writer Terry Eisele, “Far Tune”, has been released in preview form and has won the 2015 and 2016 SPACE Prize for best Minicomic. Brent lives in Columbus Ohio with his wife and two boys.
