Synopsis

Healy and Schoepf are names not likely to be found in history books but they belong to families who make up the fabric of the American dream shared by millions of 19th century immigrants to the United States. They left Europe in escape mode with hopes and some plans of finding a better life in America. They arrived in the U.S. with far more grit and determination than resources. Indeed, ignorance may have been their greatest blessing. Had they known what lay directly ahead, they may well have stayed where they were born. For over 100 years, these hearty families traveled parallel paths, each liberally paved with challenges, hardship, triumph and loss. Though neither family can boast of a character like today’s action heroes, all of the characters in this story were heroic in their own way. "Sons of the Soil" is their story.

À propos de l'auteur

About the Author… Michael Schoepf is a retired educator, newspaper executive and marketing consultant who was raised in each of the continental time zones, but mostly in South Dakota. He currently lives in Albert Lea, Minnesota, with his wife Bev and adult children Maria and Tony. In addition to Sons of the Soil, he previously published Iron Mountain, a story of how good people are sometimes caught up in unfortunate circumstances. “Iron Mountain is a story I wanted to write,” he says. “’Sons of the Soil’” is the story I was meant to write.” A lifetime of experience with various types of people has given Michael an understanding that helps him paint word pictures of the characters in his work. According to him, each is modeled on someone he knows or is a composite of two or more of the people who have been a part of his life. Michael’s next project is planned to be a series of essays based on his 16 years of experience teaching in a sheltered care youth group home. He is also considering writing a sequel to Iron Mountain.
