Born in Palo Alto, 1952, Daniel Briggs was a late bloomer, youthful folly taking him down a number of disparate paths. From Nature's Way, the first avocado & sprouts, smoothie & carrot juice bar in Northern California to an ill-fated career as a movie producer (Sextette, Mae West) in the hedonistic '70s of Los Angeles, Briggs kept searching for his true calling.

In between projects, the road of excess led to the palace of wisdom when shamanic allies like Psilocybin Mushrooms, Peyote and Lysergic acid diethylamide opened the doors of perception-triggering a graceful samadhi awakening on a white sand beach in the Bahamas.

Daniel stumbled upon his destiny when he opened Mandala Books, a humble bookshop in pre-Silicon Valley. The venerable spiritual oasis in Menlo Park, East West Books had been bought by a slick New Age cult, Ananda, and this was an ideal opportunity to offer an unbiased metaphysical bookstore to sincere seekers being seduced by an incursion of Hindu gurus, superseded by the diaspora of Tibetan Buddhists in the '90s.
