Renee Phillips, author and director of Manhattan Arts International, writes, “Schneider creates sculpture that leaps off the three-dimensional plane with resounding exuberance.” James A. Abbott, director of Johns Hopkins’s Evergreen Museum, adds that Mr. Schneider’s sculptures “demonstrate both an awe-inspiring mastery of engineering and a mood-instilling sense of poetry.”

After thirty-four years developing his skill of direct woodcarving, Lawrence Schneider, at age seventy, decided to become a full-time sculptor.
The majority of his work life had been occupied with two long and successful careers, first as an aeronautical engineer and second as a computer systems professional. He worked in several organizations, ranging from a startup company to the federal government. These experiences, combined with roles as a private pilot, college instructor, husband, father, and grandfather, give him a thoughtful and reflective perspective.
His half-century of creative design in engineering plays a vital role in his sculpture art. Mr. Schneider is frequently invited to speak to art and community groups about how he found his artistic bliss so late in life. Collectors in the United States and Europe own his sculptures, and his work has appeared in many juried and solo exhibits.
