About the author: Gladys Morales-Smith was born in Lima, Peru. A journalist by vocation and with an academic education in the mass media field, she has practiced the art of writing in Spanish for the majority of the last several decades. She also worked as a diplomat in many Latin American countries and in the United States of America. In addition, she holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations, and postgraduate courses in Sociology and International Business. Her interest in women’s issues dates back to the 1970s. At that time in Peru, (for the first time thanks to the socialization of newspapers) the papers contained a section dedicated to highlight the values and achievements of Peruvian women. The traditional social page was replaced by one dedicated to publicize the intellectual side of women, a difficult task, which with time and due to traditional political interests began fading in 1980 with new rules and restrictions. The seed for being interested in women’s issues continued to grow within Gladys. Thus, the interest and journalistic curiosity of the author turned into searching for answers to the many years of relegation and disappointment of the role of women in modern society. After nearly four decades of interest and experience the issue is more complex than ever. The present book is published as a result of the accumulated knowledge of the author on women’s issues and her desire to contribute with solutions to a situation where women are still behind in real progress, based on a better treatment between females.
