Synopsis

We won't have any choice.” The Sunset Days of Diamond Boy Howdy examines the conflict of one man against another, of one dream against another. American dreams. That of a goodness idealized in the American psyche against rags to riches success. Diamond Boy Howdy was born on the wild frontier and is now in his old age in mid twentieth-century America. His fortunes have turned, and he inhabits the past more than the present as he watches the world he has known being uprooted by forces beyond his control and a vision contrary to his own. That vision is sold by Winchester Russell, a banker and local hero for all he does to see the growing community prosper. Winchester has a scheme, and when he gives Diamond Boy Howdy the ultimatum, the past, present, and future collide on his small ranch, The Lazy Diamond. The struggle intensifies in a setting the author has dubbed the Post Western, a place where the ways of the Old West are reveled in and revered but the power of brute force gives way to more modern means of influence.
