Peace Process Summarized and Published Wall Street Journal – June 1, 2016 The WSJ Opinion Section titled Crime in Rising, Police Effectiveness Declines, summarized the peace process proposed in this book. “ Consider the model that was successful in underpinning peace efforts in Northern Ireland. Key assumptions are that no one has the right to make life miserable or unsafe for others, and that a very few in a community should not be allowed to threaten the 95%-plus law-abiding citizens. This requires dedication and brave leaders. A declaration of intent is needed for each community that chooses to become a member. A recruiting and contact system is needed, and the tools of the organization are the cameras and cellphones of its members. It is the goal of the organization to bring peace and restore a sense of control over the lives of those in the community. Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan are the heroines of Northern Ireland and received the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the organization to help stop the murders there. Gene Meyer – Houston” Over time decisions impacting our lives have been pushed to higher levels of government. Those deciding for us are far removed from us and often one decision can not fit or even help solve problems in differing communities. Our police are the closest help for our needs but they are reeling from criticism within the community and growing federal intervention. A community group focusing on stopping violence and instilling civility would give trouble makers concern while reinforcing the need for all of us to take responsibility for determining quality of life where we live. It can help back off pressure on police. Each group will mirror their community and give people of all races, religions and economic status the opportunity to unite and discuss positive and challenging situations. Community organizations championing peace may have a valid role in countries trying to assimilate large groups of refugees.
