In January of 1817 two enterprising pioneers platted a tiny village in southwestern Ohio. Recognizing the potential of the location on a green, tree-filled hilltop over which ran the main road between the expanding cities of Cincinnati and Hamilton, they thus set in motion the founding of Mt. Pleasant, eventually renamed Mt. Healthy. The history of this community, while unique, is also part of a larger story; it is representative of the way thousands of small villages would shape the unfolding history of Ohio and the nation. This volume has been researched and written by two professional historians in an effort to fit this local history into the grander scope of historical inquiry. Its release coincides with Mt. Healthy's bicentennial, two hundred years of seemingly small changes that formed tiny bits of a much larger national picture.
