Synopsis

The goal of our Truth Engine Institute is to help increase the popularity of civil argumentation, and to introduce a new style of public debate, a style that is designed to improve the way in which argumentation can reveal and disseminate truth. Our method consists of pairing each debate series on a topic with a constantly improved and logically-structured book of best arguments, called a “controversy-book,” for that topic. The amendment of the controversy-book will be done collectively, in different kinds of workshops. This method keeps the debate on track and allows it to evolve quickly. We will be focusing first on a specific controversy that’s rich in the elements that make for a good debate; namely, the question of UFOs. The UFO Dialectic is the controversy-book for this topic. In this book, we have, using several important cases as examples, assembled most of the best arguments pro and con the following proposition: Some UFOs are manifestations of an otherworldly intelligence. Although the author is on the “pro” side of this debate, and the text of the first edition reflects this opinion, we are committed to presenting all views in their most compelling form. The reader is invited to suggest changes to this book.
