The weeping willow tree symbolizes life and represents balance, learning, growth, and harmony. The trunk stands firm, withstanding the greatest of challenges, while the branches are flexible, able to go where the wind blows them. It is said that the message of the willow tree is to adjust to life as it happens . . . to surrender to the process and to not fight it.
The willow reminds us to let go, to express our deep emotions of grief and sadness, and then, even through great loss, we can grow and find our way to something new.
The image of the willow tree has given me a symbol for finding a new way home . . . a way that calls us to stand firm, to seek life, balance, learning, growth, and harmony; surrendering to life as it is, even—or maybe especially—in times of grief and loss.
On this journey with the willow tree symbol, the image of the crane also became important. The crane reminds us that all storms pass, that it is in the eye of the storm that you find your inner power, that in the eye of the storm it is possible to find silence and connection to life. You can be strong and as graceful as the crane as you let go, as your heart opens and healing takes you to new heights.
