Synopsis

"Saving Pan" is a vegetarian cookbook produced by the Grant Park Chapter of Roots & Shoots, a passionate group of Portland, Oregon middle-schoolers, to help chimpanzees who have been orphaned by bushmeat hunters in Africa by raising funds for the Jane Goodall Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in the Republic of Congo. In addition to recipes contributed by the girls and local Portland chefs, they wrote chefs as far away as Paris and Seville requesting recipes for the project. They received ones included in this cookbook from renowned chefs and authors such as Mark Bittman, Ina Garten, Mollie Katzen, Thomas Keller, Alain Passard, Michael Pollan, and Annie Somerville, as well as then-first lady Michelle Obama, who contributed the White House Kitchen Garden Cucumber Soup. Foreword by Jane Goodall.
