Cormac McCarthy is an American novelist, screenwriter, and playwright who has won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. A number of his works have been adapted into films, including All the Pretty Horses, The Road, and the four-time Academy Award–winning No Country for Old Men.

No printing number stated on the copyright page. The print run was low, reported to be 2,500, and sales were very low, so there were no additional printings. Many were unsold and were remaindered.The book is in excellent condition, clean, no marks, not remaindered. Boards show no wear, no bumps, gilt lettering on spine is bright, no wear. The binding is tight and square. The text edges are very slightly foxed. Pages are clean without toning common to UK books of this age. There is no writing, no bookplate or other sign from a previous owner.The original dust jacket is bright with no fading. It has not been clipped with the publisher's original price of "£2.50 net" on the front flap. There is slight foxing on both front and back flaps. There is a ¼ inch tear and some wrinkling at the top of the rear panel. The jacket is now protected in a Brodart protective cover. The vivid cover art by Graham Palfrey-Rogers warns of the disturbing content of the novel.The book is housed in a custom-made hard-shell slipcase. Both front and back have copies of the dust jacket art and is lined with green felt. It is in Fine condition with only a small bump at the top of the spine.This is a beautiful UK First Edition copy of McCarthy's third novel following Outer Dark and The Orchard Keeper . His early books did not sell well and surviving copies in fine condition are hard to find.
