Cloth. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. Reprint. Hardback. Studies in Twentieth Century Literature. Slight shelf wear to top edge of D/J. Slight foxing to D/J. Reprinted from Forum For Modern language Studies. Volume XI. No. 4. Each of the five essays in this volume makes its own new contribution to our knowledge of the Russian literary scene in the twentieth century. The first two are on Russian Symbolism, James West discussing its relationship to the visual arts, and John Elsworthy providing a major critical account of Andrei Bely's theory of Symbolism. Christopher Barnes focuses on the Russian Revolution and its refraction in some hitherto neglected or unknown writings by Boris Pasternak: these early works by Pasternak shed light on the nature of his wayward revolutionary enthusiasm and its subsequent collapse. Geoffrey Hosking, discussing novels by Vladimov, Voinovich, Tendryakov and Maksimov, finds in them examples of a general tendency in recent Sovier literature: the search for a new concept of man, challenging the official, orthodox Marxist-Leninist definition. Finally, the recent series of prose works by Valentin Kataev, provocatively modern in their style and contect, are examined by R. Russell. 91 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
