She was the wife of jazz composer and musician Sir John Dankworth and the mother of bassist Alec and singer Jacqui Dankworth. She had popular success with singles such as "You'll Answer To Me" and appeared in a range of musical theatre productions. She received a number of awards and honors including appointment as an OBE in 1979, and a Grammy in 1986; she became a dame in 1997. Sir John Phillip William Dankworth CBE (1927 - 2010), also known as Johnny Dankworth, was an English jazz composer, saxophonist, clarinettist, and bandleader. With his wife, he was a music educator and also her music director. The New York Times described him as "one of the leading lights of British jazz." He was also a prolific composer of film soundtracks. This copy is fine in purple paper-covered boards with silver titles on the spine. No marks or damage at all. The unclipped DJ has just very slight edge wear. Laid in are an air letter dated in the year of publication to friends in London, sent while the couple was visiting New Zealand, and a promotional flyer for The Stables, a famous music venue, founded by the Dankworths on their property near Milton Keynes.
