As an investment counsellor at McKinney Alitzer, Iris Thorne's job is pursuing business opportunities. So when her former fiancé contacts her out of the blue, inviting her to investigate a new business venture in the emerging Russian market, she's intrigued. But, only hours after she's been met by Todd at Moscow airport, he's dead and, what's worse, the Moscow police assume that she was somehow involved in his murder. Iris manages to return to Los Angeles, taking with her Todd's ashes which she's agreed to deliver to his devastated sister. Only then does she see that Los Angeles can be even more terrifying than Moscow as Todd's guilt-laden legacy threatens destroy her...
