Following the emotional intensity of defending her own nephews, first rate criminal defence attorney Karen Perry-Mondori looks forward to what appears to be a more straight forward case. Herman 'The Professor' Gaylord, an elderly homeless man is found with the dead body of a fellow tramp. The police jump to the worst conclusions - robbery and murder. An apparently simple case takes a bizarre turn when an LA lawyer arrives claiming to be the victim's son, but offering to pay for Gaylord's defence. Two separate autopsies bring in conflicting results about his health prior to death. Curious, Karen investigates further and soon realises that the events she is dealing with are far from 'straight forward'.
