First published in 1986.
The focus of this book is the dramatic strategies of scenic repetition and character separation. The author traces the way in which Shakesperare often presents recurring gestures, dramatic interactions, and complex scenic structures at widely separated intervals in a play - thereby providing an internal system of cross-reference for an audience. He also examines the way in which Shakespeare increases the dramatic voltage in central relationships by limiting the access key characters have to each other on stage. These strategies, it is argued, are indelible marks of Shakespeare's craftsmanship which survive all attempts to obliterate it in many modern productions.

Hardcover. Etat : Very Good Plus. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good Plus. 1st Edition. As far as I can see there isn't another book for sale of this title that possesses the three following qualities: a Non-Library Hardcover in a Dust Jacket. In addition it is a First Edition (Routledge & Kegan Paul= 'First Published Year'). More good news, the book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. You can take a look at the photographs. I think they speak for themselves. The book is very solidly bound, absolutely no issues in that regard. And the pages are all very clean. I didn't see any soiling. No one has written any notes or underlined anything on any of the pages. Of course nothing is perfect and the previous owner who was clearly a Shakespeare scholar (he possessed a dozen or so academic titles) loved his books so much that he placed a stamp with his name, address and phone number) inside. If you purchase the book you will find it on the inside front cover and beneath the author's name on the title page. At least it's small. The Dust Jacket is Not clipped. As you can see in the first three photographs, it's in very nice condition. It is quite clean. The spine is not faded. There are no tears. The only wear is a little crinkling at and near to the top of the spine. The dust jacket will be fitted with a protective cover. N° de réf. du vendeur 000831
