Synopsis

This is an exquisite photographic portrait of one of the most popular and beautiful cities in Britain. The unique character of this fascinating and historic town - its ancient spa and its Georgian architecture - is captured beautifully in these imaginative and original colour photographs. From the stunning vista of Bath afforded at Beechen Cliff, to the charm and intimacy of the small streets, to the grandeur of the Regency crescents, views of the familiar and the 'hidden' Bath are accompanied by carefully selected literary quotations from famous writers and travellers. This literary and photographic tour includes the exteriors and interiors of the Roman Baths, the Pump Room, the Assembly Rooms, the Royal Crescent and Bath Abbey, as well views of the nearby Prior Park, Claverton Down and sleepy Bathampton.Carefully compiled and stylishly presented, this is a truly outstanding photographic book of long-lasting merit.
