Jimmy Perry was born in 1923 in London. It was always his dream to be in show business, but before this dream could be fully realised, he first had to serve his time in the army in World War II. After a period in the Home Guard, he was called up and sent to Burma. His ability to entertain was recognised early and he became a member of the Royal Artillery Concert Party, an armed fighting unit as well as a group of artistes! On his return to Britain, he won a place at RADA, and from there moved in to his chosen career in show business. His writing credits include Dad's Army, It Ain't Half Hot, Mum, Hi-De-Hi! And You Rang, M'Lord? He now lives in Northants, with his wife.
