Many lacemakers are keen to design for themselves, but uncertain how to get started. This book is designed to encourage those who have some lacemaking experience to create new Torchon lace patterns, providing a wealth of ideas to develop this traditional technique. Simple exercises and examples are expanded through the use of unusual grids and colour combinations, using both the familiar and more unexpected threads. Jane Atkinson provides new sources for design, including Art Deco, Japanese, Russian, Pueblo, African and Celtic patterns, and inspiration drawn from everything from electrical circuits to Venetian glass. The author sets out basic pattern skills in an orderly format, which allows the reader to work at her own pace. Every pattern is intended to be fully workable and can be made into anything from household linens to dress trimmings. The author is a founder member of the Lace Guild and a member of the Lace Society and the Dorset Crafts Guild.
