Synopsis

NEW IN PAPERBACK
A practical but inspirational book on fabric manipulation techniques for quilts to give a range of fascinating textural effects, many of them pioneered by the acclaimed author, Jennie Rayment, who teaches extensively in the UK and the USA. The author's work is noted for the use of monochrome calico, although flashes of inspirational colour are seen throughout.
The book, illustrated in colour throughout and including clear line diagrams, is divided into the following sections:
Tucks: using different sizes, twists, widths and fabrics with embellishment in the form of ribbons, threads and decorative stitchery
Experimental inserted seams to create tucks, tucked circles and tucks from bias-cut fabrics
Prairie points, used in different sizes and different geometric formats with ideas for design experiments
Exploration with folded shapes: squares, triangles, hexagons, rectangles, cathedral windows
Using the Fibonacci sequence as a design source
Texture in the round: construction of circular designs
Inserted shapes: squares, hexagons and triangles inserted into a seam then manipulated to create different designs for both quilt blocks and borders
Textured machine quilting: ways to create surface texture in between the folded areas and also to add pre-texturing to the material before folding, tucking or manipulating
Projects: six different projects, ranging in difficulty, which use techniques explained earlier in the book
