The text is illustrated with over 150 splendid colour photographs, and there are indices of common and scientific names. The Handbook of Aviculture is a comprehensive guide to the care and management of over 500 species of aviary bird. The book falls into two parts, the first dealing with care, diet, accommodation and breeding, plus a specially commissioned section on diseases and ailments written by Andrew Greenwood. The second part of the book gives an illustrated list of birds, both rare and common, with comprehensive details including a description of the bird, its ideal diet and information on its natural range, avicultural rating, breeding and general management. As legislation to prohibit the export of birds from their country of origin increases, so does the possibility of the permanent loss of many exotic species to aviculturists throughout the world. By establishing sound and careful breeding programmes, it is possible for aviculturists to work towards the same aim as conservationists, by protecting species from extinction and dispensing completely with the need for importation of wild birds with its consequent loss and waste. Frank Woolham is a former staffman of one of Britain's biggest zoological gardens, who has kept exotic bird species for over 40 years. He is now a full-time author on aviculture, the countryside and conservation. Size: Sm 4to. N° de réf. du vendeur 141558
