Biographie de l'auteur

Rafael Martinez Nadal left Spain during the Civil War and settled in London. During World War 2 he was the BBC's leading political commentator on Spain. In 1944 he became a full time lecturer at King's College where he worked on all aspects of Spanish culture.

With six full-page monochrome illustrations, mostly showing manuscript pages from the work. ***Near fine in maroon cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine very slightly creased. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges clean. Internally very good, with no ownership inscriptions, but with three Cs in ink at the top of the front pastedown, and 'Copy 1' in ink at the top of the front free endpaper (please see scans). Interior pages clean. No foxing or browning. No creases or tears. A few light pencil ticks in the Index. ***In a very good typographical printed dustwrapper, which is complete, with no chips or tears. The dustwrapper has not been price-clipped, retaining the publisher's printed price of �4.95 on the front flap. The matt-finish dustwrapper has some rubbing and creasing at the edges, mainly at the top edge of the back panel near the spine, and there are some brown marks on the spine (please see scans).
