Hardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. 1980 David & Charles hardcover edition. Some reading wear else good condition. From the dustjacket: It has been said that there was never a bad Lancia. For such a claim to span seventy years is remarkable, but not more so than the character of Vincenzo Lancia himself. The founder of the Lancia Company had in his youth been a brilliant racing driver, and the cars he went on to build were drivers' machines, from the excellent orthodox vehicles of the early years to the increasingly inventive products of the established company. But Lancia did not experiment with novelties. Everything he built was intended for sale - the rear-gearbox Zeta of 1912, the fabulous postwar V12 with its unique suspension system, the immortal Lambda and its brilliant successors of the 1930s, and the Aprilia, one of the masterpieces of automobile engineering. Nigel Trow's tremendous enthusiasm for his subject has expressed itself in an ideal combination of meticulous research and readable style. A narrative history of family, company and racing interests is followed by an extensive technical section giving the fullest specifications of every production model up to the Appia, plus a detailed account of its development. The successes of the company did not end with Vincenzo's death: his son Gianni proved quite as fine an engineer, and together with Vittorio Jano produced the marvellous Aurelia and made ambitious plans for the racing scene. That the revolutionary D50 Grand Prix car did not quite make the grade for Lancia was no fault of Gianni's: under the control of Ferrari, it went on to win the World Championship for Italy. In real terms, nothing made by Lancia has ever been a failure. Mr Trow has assembled a fascinating selection of illustrations including rare blueprints direct from Lancia in Turin, informative drawings from the US patent office, and a stunning set of photographs. All in all, this is an indispensable volume for every Lancia enthusiast. N° de réf. du vendeur 3M-J74B-VT4M
