Born in Bingley, he studied music and Fine Art in Paris, took a degree in Music at Manchester and the Royal College of Music, then went on to be leader in several national orchestras, as well as writing about and teaching violin playing. He continued to exhibit in one-man shows of his paintings, inspired by the landscapes of his native West Yorkshire, and it was from researches for his artwork that these images were captured.
